2008 Hawkwatch Summary

Spring 2008 was our sixth season of migration monitoring. A record number of raptors (6,872) were recorded, including the greatest Swainson’s Hawk (5,378) and Turkey Vulture (1,411) count in any year. Rain during critical periods of 2008 produced an abundance of wildflowers. This in turn created feeding opportunities for the Swainson’s Hawks.
